Spinner Rings
A spinner ring, also known as a fidget ring or meditation ring, has an outer band that turns freely around the ring beneath it. Each one is designed by Viola So in 925 sterling silver, made to be worn every day and turned whenever you want a quiet moment.
A guide to spinner rings
How they are made, how to find the right size, and how to care for the silver.
What is a spinner ring?
A spinner ring is two rings made as one. An outer band, the spinner, sits over a base ring and turns freely around it at the lightest touch of your thumb. The idea comes from the Tibetan prayer wheel, where every turn carries a quiet wish.
Spinner rings are also known as fidget rings or meditation rings. We simply call them spinner rings, and we make every one of ours in 925 sterling silver.
Why most spinner rings are wide
The base ring has to be wide enough to carry the spinner. That width is also where the magic lies: it gives us room to carve a whole scene into the silver, a lady walking through a forest, a range of mountains, a garden in bloom.
A narrow spinner ring is made a little differently. The spinner sits in its own track on the base ring, keeping the ring slim for anyone who prefers a lighter look.
Why a spinner ring cannot be resized
An ordinary ring can be cut and stretched a size up or down. A spinner ring cannot. To resize one, the whole ring would have to be taken apart, and the design carved into the base would be distorted.
For that reason we do not resize our spinner rings, and finding the right size before ordering matters more than with any other ring.
Caring for your sterling silver
925 sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver. The remaining 7.5% is other metals, added for strength, and it is these that cause silver to tarnish over time. We do not plate our spinner rings, so the silver you see is the silver you wear.
A silver and gold polishing cloth brings back the shine, and every ring arrives with one. We also make a professional grade cloth in house; kindly ask through our Contact Us page if you would like one.
Finding the right ring size
We gently advise against measuring with a strip of paper and a pen. A difference of a millimetre or two is enough to land on the wrong size, and it is an easy mistake to make at home. There are two reliable ways instead:
- Visit your neighbourhood jeweller. A friendly jeweller can measure your finger properly in a few minutes.
- Use a ring sizer. Every Energy Stone order arrives with a free ring sizer, so whether the next ring is for you or for someone dear to you, you will have one to hand.
We make every ring true to size, with a little room for the natural swelling of fingers through the day. Our ring size guide has the full chart.
If you find yourself between two sizes, we suggest choosing the larger one.
Choosing a spinner ring as a gift
Every Energy Stone ring has a name and a story behind it. DAUGHTER and SON were made for the bond between a parent and a child. LADY IN NATURE and MAN IN NATURE are made as a pair. NEVER QUIT was designed for a son with a goal of his own. Whichever you choose, it arrives gift boxed with a polishing cloth, with free shipping to the US and Canada.
Questions we are often asked
- Can a spinner ring be resized?
- No. The ring would have to be taken apart and its carved design would be distorted, so we kindly ask that the size is measured carefully before ordering.
- Will my spinner ring tarnish?
- Yes, gently and over time, because sterling silver contains 7.5% other metals. A silver polishing cloth brings back the shine.
- Is a spinner ring the same as a fidget ring?
- Yes. The same ring goes by several names: spinner ring, fidget ring and meditation ring.
- Why are spinner rings wider than other rings?
- The base ring has to carry the spinner. That width is also what allows a whole scene to be carved into the silver.
